Summary

The Employee Relations Director is focused on ensuring a positive employment brand while also ensuring employment law compliance and effective recruitment and retention strategies. The Employee Relations Director provides employee relations support and assistance to both management and staff, which includes initial intake of staff-related matters, conducting investigations, and assisting management with personnel management. This role is also responsible for supporting company compliance initiatives such as policy and procedure administration, employee handbook, and safety programs.

Employment Brand and Culture
Models company core values while practicing and supporting a positive work environment. Works with executive team to develop and implement plans that foster employee engagement in a consistent manner.

Recruitment & Retention
Takes a proactive and analytical approach to planning and executing recruitment plans. Collaborates with all managers to ensure recruitment plans meet the needs of individual departments and company goals. Takes ownership of recruitment and retention plans and ensures proper implementation.

Compliance
Acts as the employment law expert within the company collaborating with upper management and outside counsel. Processes FMLA, W/C Claims, and other compliance-related matters as necessary. Evaluates internal compliance processes and compares to standard practices to ensure internal systems are adequate.

Staff Training and Manager Development
Supports managers to identify staff training needs. Develops internal training programs as needed. Partners with the CEO to evaluate and coordinate leadership development training programs. Collaborates with outside training resources as necessary.

HR Operations/ Projects
Administers a broad range of tasks and projects including resolving complaints and assisting staff, supervisors, and managers with the interpretation of policies and procedures. Provides support, advice, and counsel to key individuals within the organization related to leadership and employment law while also making recommendations. Takes on special projects related to safety, business, and staff initiatives. Takes a hands-on approach to monitoring HR transactions when necessary. Supervises HR staff and provides ongoing guidance related to HR functions.

Benefit Administration
Leads the design and implementation of the company’s health benefit plans. Assists staff and managers with questions related to benefits and pay.

Reporting/ Data Analysis
Establishes current and new metrics necessary to measure recruitment, retention, and safety compliance efforts. Identifies other HR metrics necessary and important to the business. Uses independent analysis of data to identify productivity trends to increase the efficiency of the department, which may include evaluating trends related to staffing issues and makes recommendations.

Special Events
Leads and coordinates the annual employee gift fund distribution. Leads the annual employee appreciation celebration committee. Responsible for organizing and implementing strategic job fair initiatives.

Experienced professional with demonstrated understanding of employee relations and proven experience solving a wide range of issues.

The Employee Relations Director presents information in a professional manner regardless of the format (verbal, written, one-on-one, group setting).

Effortlessly provides exceptional support on phone or in-person.

Principled Leader
Must be able to use a high level of tact, diplomacy, discretion, and empathy with a diverse employment base.

Must be a capable, independent manager, yet thrive when collaborating and brainstorming in a group.

Able to interface with both C-suite and hourly staff. Able to analyze data and translate into business/ common sense. Must value the technical aspects of HR while applying a strategic approach to problem solving.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or related field.

PHR or SPHR preferred.

Must have professional business management experience, which may be gained from a past general management role, or, as department head or business unit leader which include responsibilities in leading and supervising staff.

Must have experience managing a business or department budget.

Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Excel, Word.

Pre-employment DOJ/FBI clearance, TB test, clear drug screen, and employment history/professional reference verification required. EOE
